Easter sci-fi event out of this world

The annual sci-fi fair was held at South Shields Museum over the Bank Holiday weekend and proved a big success.

Sci-fi enthusiast Keith Lawler brought his collector’s fair back to the South Shields Museum and Art Gallery and it proved to be as popular as ever.

This was the fifth time for the special day and everyone enjoyed the event with many dressing up as their favourite characters.

Keith said: “It was an absolutely brilliant day. We will have to wait for official numbers from the museum, but there were lots of people there.

“It was really busy throughout the day.”

He said the sci-fi event is popular with people of all ages and there was something for everyone to enjoy.

The organiser said: “It was really, really busy constantly throughout the day, it was a fantastic event.”

He said the museum is always a good venue to host the event and in previous years has attracted more than 1,200 people through the doors and it is believed to have been just as successful this year.

Keith said it was lovely seeing so many people, including lots of children, dressed up and during the day they were giving out prizes for best costumes to both adults and children and Easter eggs were also being handed out to visitors during the day.

Traders from across the North East took part and there were stalls with a variety of items for sale from toys and comics, to books, costumes and memorabilia.

Sci-fi covers a huge range of things, from fantasy programmes such as The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones, to superheroes, including Batman and Captain America.

There were also stalls dedicated to favourites such as Dr Who and Pokemon.

Keith said: “It is really about anything that has a bit of an edge to it.”

Anyone who missed out on the fun can still take part in another up coming sci-fi fair soon.

Keith is organising another event to take place on Saturday, June 2, at the Primrose Community Centre in Jarrow’s Lambton Terrace.

And, on Sunday, July 22, there will be a large sci-fi event at Woodhorn Colliery Museum in Ashington.
