The recent heatwave in South Tyneside came to an abrupt end on Thursday.

After days of sizzling in the sun, South Shields seafront was shrouded in fog on the morning of July 22.

And the beach went from being postcard perfect to looking positively eerie.

The ferry almost blends in with the sky.
