'Bin finder!' - Interactive map for South Tyneside nurdle clear-up is now online
Online advice is available to help protect our environment.
South Tyneside’s great nurdle clear-up continues and it still needs all the public help it can get.
The operation has been underway since two ships collided at the Port of Tyne on July 19, spilling around 17 tonnes of the polluting plastic pellets into the river in just five seconds.
South Tyneside Council has five specific drop-off points on the borough’s beaches for nurdle collections and an online map to show where they are.
Any person good enough to help out should please follow guidance and leave all nurdles at these locations so council teams can collect, store and record them as part of the ongoing response.
If you’re not collecting nurdles but see plastic pellets on South Tyneside beaches or shoreline you can report sightings and send photographs to [email protected].
Please note locations of nurdle bins may be subject to last minute changes. Always check online before arranging collection drop offs.
