A poll by YouGov has revealed the borough comes in at number eight with its unfavourable views of staying in the European Union (EU) ahead of Britain’s referendum on June 23.

The website states that ‘euroscepticism of various areas partly correlates with lower income, but euroscepticism also has strongholds in the more wealthy, Tory shires’.

The poll, which quizzed more than 80,000 adults on their opinions, saw residents living Havering in London take the top spot on the Eurosceptic list with their strong views against remaining part of the EU.

Meanwhile, those most against Britain’s potential EU exit, which has become known on social media sites as the ‘Brexit’, live in Ceredigion, Wales.

You Gov said: “The top ten most eurosceptic areas in the table below are dotted all over England, with three around the South East: Havering, Peterborough and Southend on Sea.

“London contains five of the top 10 most europhile areas, but none of the rest are in England.”

Blackpool, Blackburn with Darwen, Cumbria and Warrington also made the list of the top ten most eurosceptic areas.
