Fire at Boldon School site believed to be accidental
A large fire which saw six crews descend on a school’s grounds is believed to be accidental.
Firefighters were called to the Boldon School site, in New Road, Boldon Colliery, on Wednesday, March 25 to tackle a blaze at a nearby community centre.
Those living nearby were urged to shut their windows while work went on for around two hours to extinguish the blaze.
A Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue spokesperson said on Thursday, March 26: “Six crews from South Shields, Marley Park, Hebburn, Sunderland Central, West Denton and Gosforth Community Fire Stations, along with the Aerial Ladder Platform, attended a fire at Boldon Community Association yesterday afternoon.
“They arrived on scene at 3.34pm and left at 5.45pm. The fire was in the roof of a single-storey building, which had been 40% severely damaged by fire.
“The remainder of the building was 100% damaged by smoke, heat and water. The cause is believed to be accidental.”
