Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service were called to a fire located near to a container at the Port of Tyne shortly before 8pm on Wednesday, January 22.
At 8.20pm, a spokeswoman for the fire service said: “We have seven appliances in attendance and an officer on route to reports of a large fire.”
Members of the public were advised to avoid the area while crews worked to extinguish the fire.
A spokesperson for Port of Tyne said: “Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue responded to a contained fire near Tynegrain Ltd based on the Tyne Dock estate and quickly extinguished one of Tynegrain Ltd’s wheel loading shovel which is believed to have overheated.”
Northumbria Police were aware of the incident but did not attend.
The fire was dealt with by 9.30pm.
