Firefighters rescue man stuck on school roof


They were joined by crews from Newcastle Central and Swalwell to the incident at West Newcastle Academy on Thursday morning.
Firefighters used safety straps and lines to secure the man to the stretcher before lowering him 12 metres down the side of the building to safety.

Hide AdHe was then taken by ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
A spokesman for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service said: "Yesterday morning crews from Newcastle Central, Swalwell, South Shields and Hebburn assisted in the rescue of a man stuck on the roof of West Newcastle Academy.
"Specialist line rescue operatives used safety straps and lines to secure the man to the stretcher before lowering him 12 metres down the side of the building to safety.
"He was then taken by ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary."
