Firefighters tackling 'large fire' at community centre on Boldon School site - nearby residents told to keep their windows closed

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed a fire has broke out at the community centre near the secondary school, in New Road, Boldon Colliery.

Nearby residents are being urged to keep their windows closed.

A spokesman for the brigade posted on Twitter: ”We are currently dealing with a large fire at a commercial building in the Boldon area. We have five pumping appliances and an aerial appliance in attendance, with our command unit on route.

Residents in the surrounding areas of New Road are advised to keep their windows closed.”
