Five people had to be rescued after being cut off by the tide at Frenchman's Bay in South Shields.

The group wee left stranded as the tide went in and had to be rescued by South Shields Coastguard, along with South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade and Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade at 4.53pm.

Everyone was brought safely back to shore at 5.20pm and no one was injured.
