And the 20-year-old has now put pen to paper ahead of the start of the new Northern League campaign.

Carson was on the books of Newcastle United, Sunderland and Gateshead College before breaking into senior football at first Jarrow Roofing, and then Ashington under the management of current Shields coach Gary Middleton.

It was there that he caught the eye of Blackburn, who snapped him up in 2014.

After a good two-year spell at Ewood Park which included a period captaining the Under-21s team, he left the club during the summer.

Carson made his first appearance for the Mariners in their friendly at Bedlington Terriers on July 12, and immediately impressed in the centre of midfield. He has also made his mark in the four friendlies since.

David now links up with his brother Danny at Mariners Park.
