Former boxer hopes to deliver knockout fundraising night for fans

Glenn McCrory has teamed up with Ricky Hatton to host a sportsman dinner on Friday.

The 52-year-old who held the IBF version of the cruiserweight world championship will be ploughing all the proceeds from the night into his boxing boot camp.

The gym will take those interested in honing their skills in the ring out to the Irish wilderness and back to basics.

The camp will be open to all boxers to use and will include accommodation and healthy eating cooking classes.

McCrory said: “The North East has a huge boxing community and this camp aims to take those looking to improve their skills away from everyday life so they can focus on their techniques with no distractions.

“It will also be an ideal place for groups working with young people who have found themselves on the wrong path, to come away so they can refocus and hopefully turn a corner and work out any anger or their problems.

“There are no fancy modern machines in there, it is very much back to basics - a bit like what you see on the film Rocky. Training people is always something I’ve wanted to do.”

McCrory and Hatton will be joined on the night by Sky Sports’ Pete Graves and will be compered by John Gibson.
