Friends' donation buys tables for hospital patients

A donation of more than £7,000 from The League of Friends of South Tyneside Hospitals has been used to buy '˜overbed' tables for older patients.

The tables are used at mealtimes and also to keep items such as newspapers, drinks and tissues close to hand.

Ward manager Ann Callaghan said: “We would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to The League of Friends.

“The new tables are easier to manoeuvre, especially for our frail, elderly patients, and they are also much easier to keep clean, which is important for infection prevention and control.”
