Fun for the whole family as Whitburn Festival kicks off

Families are being invited to enjoy the fun at a South Tyneside village festival.

The community of Whitburn has come together to hold as series of Whitburn Festival events. starting today, including a tea dance, flower show, strawberry teas, a family fun day and Whitburn’s Got Talent show.

The programme begins today with the festival tea dance - running from 3pm to 6pm at The Barnes Institute in East Street.

Wednesday June 21 will see pupils of Whitburn C of E Academy and Marsden Primary School stage the Whitburn’s Got Talent contest, taking place at 6pm, in the Parish Church Hall on Sandy Chare.

Whitburn Methodist Church is hosting the annual Flower Show from Friday June 23 to Sunday June 25.

The event runs from 10am to 4pm on Friday and Saturday and noon to 3pm on Sunday.

Music lovers can enjoy an evening of music on Saturday June 24, at 7pm, in Whitburn Methodist Church.

The music theme will continue at the church on Sunday June 25, with songs of praise, starting at 6pm.

One of the highlights of the festival is the family fun day on Saturday June 24, from noon to 4pm, at Cornthwaite Park.

There will be stalls, face painters, inflatables, fairground rides and refreshments.

Whitburn Parish Church will be offering traditional cream teas to visitors between noon and 3pm on Saturday June 24, and from noon to 4pm the following day.

Coun Tracey Dixon, a member of the Whitburn Festival Committee, said: “The festival is really popular and I’m sure that once again local residents and visitors will have a wonderful time.
