Funeral firm help give Jarrow hospice a cash boost

For the past 10 years Peter Johnson Funerals has been taking part in a range of fundraising events in aid of St Clare’s Hospice in Jarrow.

Last year, a memorial service was held by the funeral directors.

Memory trees were also put up in their four branches where people could place a message to a loved one over the festive season, raising a total of £787 for the hospice and bringing the company’s fundraising total to date to £5,880.

Lee Harkus, business manager at Peter Johnson Funerals said: “St Clare’s Hospice is a local charity we all hold very dear to our hearts. Our colleague Dave was cared for at St Clare’s before he sadly passed away. Another of our colleagues, who has thankfully been given the all clear from cancer, has recently benefited from the services offered at the Hospice.

“Many of our staff members have family or friends who have been affected by life- limiting illnesses and have visited St Clare’s Hospice. It’s something that affects all of us, that’s what sets St Clare’s apart.”

Wendy McGauley, head of fundraising and communications at St Clare’s Hospice, in Primrose Terrace, Jarrow, said: “We are incredibly grateful for the continued support we have received from Peter Johnson Funerals over the years and would like to say a huge thank you to all colleagues at Peter Johnson Funerals, who have come together to raise funds for us.”

St Clare’s Hospice needs to raise £1.7m in donations each year in order to provide care and support to people affected by life-limiting illnesses in the South of Tyne.
