Garden shed flung through the air as Storm Gertrude grips the borough

A metal shed flung into the air by heavy winds blew over a garden at a home in Linkway, Jarrow, and hurtled into a vehicle in the car park at Hedworth Primary School in Jarrow this morning.

One crew from Hebburn fire station turned out at 11am to dismantle the shed - and ensure it could not cause any further damage.

Watch Manager Andrew Blower said: "We were called out to Hedworthfield Primary School at 11am after a metal shed was picked up by the heavy winds and blown over a fence.

"It landed at the car park at the primary school and hit a car.

"We dismantled the shed in order to make the area safe."
