The former Gillan band member will be playing South Shields’ Unionist Club on April 1 to coincide with the release of his new triple album: Dublin Cowboy - part of which was recorded live in South Shields.

The guitarist and his band returns to South Shields for the fourth time in five years, this time as the first date on their 2017 UK Tour.

Bernie has enjoyed a long and remarkable career with hit records, world tours and international acclaim.

While a member of Gillan, Bernie wrote and played on four top 10 albums and many hit singles, including Gillan’s biggest-selling singles, New Orleans and Trouble.

He then stepped in for Ozzy Osbourne in the aftermath of guitar legend Randy Rhoads’ tragic death before going on to front his own band.

The triple-disc Dublin Cowboy, which will be officially released on April 7, was made following a phenomenally successful Pledge-fund appeal that hit its target in less than nine hours.

Bernie said: “I always wanted to do a triple album and also an acoustic album, and combining the two seemed like the obvious idea, though truth is it nearly killed me, I’m still in recovery.

“I am totally knocked out with how the shred-free acoustic album has been received. Fans who pledged and have heard it absolutely love it.”

Bernie is now looking forward to performing songs from the new album, as well as some old favourites.

He said: “Got a bunch of rock ‘n’ roll pint-spillers from the new Dublin Cowboy album that we will be rocking out live on the tour. I can’t wait, get ready people, this one will be total killer.”

Bernie and his band will be supported by North East heavy metal legends Fist.

Tickets for the gig cost £10 in advance by contacting the Unionist Club, Laygate, on 0191 4274597, or £12 on the door.
