Hebburn care centre for young adults with complex needs undergoes major refurbishment
A Hebburn care centre has underwent a major refurbishment.
Hebburn Day Care Services has transformed into a state-of-art care facility following a major refurbishment at the site.
More than £1million-worth of investment has been delivered to ensure that the centre, on Rother Close, is completely accessible to young adults with autism, learning disabilities and complex needs.
The site includes a hydrotherapy pool, sensory rooms, an immersive room, a cinema room, quiet rooms, and more - with all of them accessible for individuals who require hoisting.
‘Very proud of it’
Louise Harrison, the registered manager, has stated that the centre was created after the owners noticed a lack of similar services in South Tyneside and the surrounding area.
She commented: “We realised that in Hebburn and the surrounding areas, there was a need for a service like this so we did our research and came up with this.
“It is a huge site with things like cinema rooms, sensory rooms, a hydrotherapy pool - we’ve got it all here.
“The entire site is designed for people with things like autism, learning disabilities and complex needs, with everyone able to have access to all of the rooms.
“Everyone that visits the centre is taken aback by it because it is a state-of-the-art day centre and there is nothing else like it in this area.
“We’re very proud of it, a lot of work, time and effort has been put in to making this the best it can be and it has been finished to a brilliant spec.”
Plans for overnight care
The centre is also seeking approval from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to go from being just a day care provider to offering overnight respite services.
Louise added: “We’re hoping that by the end of next week, if not sooner, that we’ll have a decision from the CQC to open our six bedrooms to the public.
“We’re very close to the finish line on this, we’ve done a lot of hard work and we’ve worked closely with the CQC.
“They’ve been out and they are very happy with the results so hopefully that approval will come through soon.”
