Helping to build a new career in construction

Affinity Sutton has brought together a range of companies to host a taster day in South Tyneside.

The event will give visitors the chance to find out more about the range of jobs available and what is involved in each role.

People will also have the opportunity to try their hand at a variety of skills needed to become a professional in the industry.

The event, part of the Ready 2 Work team’s portfolio, has been organised with the support of South Tyneside Council, Groundwork, Keepmoat, Bell Group, Resources North East and many others.

Training providers will also be on hand to answer questions on accredited courses people can sign up to, which will help with their employability.

There may also be some work experience opportunities for people that don’t have any – or any current – experience.

Anna Higham, from the Bell Group, said: “We are looking forward to the Construction Taster event this month in conjunction with Affinity Sutton.

“Our industry is crying out for new people.

“These types of events give anyone who thinks they may be interested in the construction industry an opportunity to speak to real people about real job opportunities.

“In our experience, the most successful and driven new employees we recruit come from events such as these.

“We would encourage anyone who has an interest in getting involved in a growing and reputable industry to come along on the day and speak to the experts who can give them a true insight into careers in this field.

“It’s fascinating hearing stories from our employees who started off as apprentices and have worked up the ranks to become managers and even directors.

The Taster Day is open to anyone who is interested in working within the construction industry.

Affinity Sutton is a social housing provider which has two estates in South Shields – Cleadon and Tyne Dock,

The event will be held at 1 Trinity Green, South Eldon Street, South Shields, on Monday, between 1pm and 4pm.
