How a project is inspiring pupils in South Tyneside

South Tyneside-based Inspire Me aims to work in partnership with primary and secondary schools to support pupils who may have lost their way in the education system.

Through a range of programmes, it aims to re-engage young people and boost their confidence.

Shah Amin, founder and managing director of Inspire Me said: “Inspire Me was set up specifically to support those children and young people who may need a little push in the right direction, who may have low confidence issues and are currently making more wrong choices than right choices in and outside of school.

“I believe there is a cohort of young people in schools across the North East and the country who require a different approach which complements what schools are already doing. The children we support are all capable of achieving well but just need a slightly different approach.

“Our aim is to help young people reach their true potential and we are passionate about transforming young people’s lives.”

Projects to date include anti-bullying, anti-drugs film, homelessness, arts project, how to be safe on the Internet and working with elderly people.

Headteacher at Sea View Primary School, Jane Cunningham said: “The Inspire Me team bring a unique focused approach that engages all of the children.

“Small group sessions enable the Inspire Me team to develop the children’s responsibility for their behaviours and learning through such approaches as restorative justice conversations.

“The impact so far is the children are proud of their work and have a calmer approach to solving behaviour problems.”
