Hunt for knifeman following an armed robbery at South Tyneside shop

Police are appealing for information after a knifeman threatened staff at a South Shields' newsagents.

The robbery happened around 8.40am this morning at St Michael's News in Westoe Road.

A man went into the shop and treatened a member of staff with a knife before making off with cash and cigarettes.

The man is described as late 20s to early 30s, 6ft tall and skinny with broad shoulders. He had black hair and a beard with grey flecks. He was wearing a black hooded top and black tracksuit bottoms.
