I’ve transformed a disused South Shields building into my new accountancy firm

A disused South Shields town centre building has been brought back to life by a new accountancy business.

A South Shields town centre building that stood empty for two years has been brought back to life by an accountant who wanted to launch her business in her hometown.

Jade Mountain, the owner of JCM Accountancy, officially opened the business at the former Moody & Co Estate Agents, on Fowler Street, back in March.

Since then, Jade has grown the business from strength-to-strength to offer accountancy services such as tax returns for sole traders to supporting limited companies with book keeping, VAT, making tax digital, IT services, payroll, and more.

‘This is where I grew up’

Jade, who is from South Shields, has told the Shields Gazette about how much it means to her to open her business within her hometown despite others telling her she could get cheaper rates elsewhere.

She commented: “When I decided to launch the business, a lot of people, including landlords, were telling me to move to somewhere like Sunderland or other places in the North East because you could get cheaper premises.

“Despite that, I always had the aim of opening in South Shields because this is where I grew up and I wanted my business to remain here.

“Seeing it the way it is now is something that I’ve always dreamt of but never thought it would be achievable in South Shields.”

Praise from the public

Jade has also revealed that members of the public have been complimenting how her business looks, as well as stating how they appreciate seeing something different in South Shields town centre.

She added: “When you look around the town centre, a lot of the buildings feel very generic so I wanted to build something that was lovely to look at, especially with it being opposite South Shields Town Hall.

“I’ve been getting messages from members of the public commenting on how nice it is to see a premises looking modern but classic at the same time.

“They’ve also said that it is nice to see a professional trade take pride in South Shields rather than things like vape shops in the town centre.”
