Jarrow School head praises students for their 'outstanding' GCSE results

A Jarrow head teacher has praised the hard work of students as they celebrate their GCSE results.

Year 11 pupils at Jarrow School are celebrating after achieving 'outstanding' grades in their GCSE exams.

Grades in maths and English have improved from last year, with 85% achieving 9 to 4 grades in English, and 75% of students achieving 9 to 4 grades in maths.

There have been some outstanding performances, with 71% of students who accessed the mainstream curriculum achieving 9 – 4 grades in English and maths.

Students also achieved some excellent results in many of the new GCSE courses including science - with 70% achieving a 4+ and history, with 66% a grade 4+.

"Obtaining good GCSE results is not easy and our students have worked extremely hard in the various subjects.
