Jarrow Scooter crash man is banned from road

Ryan Hebdon fell off the Yamaha 125 scooter while riding it along Finchale Road, Hebburn.

He was banned for 18 months after appearing at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court heard.

Lesley Burgess, prosecuting, said: “There was a road traffic collision at about 10.20pm on July 21.

“When police arrived Hebdon was being attended to by paramedics.

“It was apparent the scooter had no registration plate.

“Hebdon was taken to South Tyneside District Hospital where a blood sample was taken.

“The reading was 141, above the legal limit of 80.

“Morphine and cannabis were also present in the sample, but at levels below the legal limit.”

Hebdon, 21, of Barnard Grove, Jarrow, admitted driving with excess alcohol, driving with no insurance, and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

The court heard he has four previous convictions, none of which are for similar offending.

Joanne Gaetens, defending, said: “Mr Hebdon has had to pay the friend for the damage to the scooter.

“So this act of stupidity has already cost him financially.

“He works as a gardener at Wynyard Hall, a job obtained for him by a neighbour and on whom he relies to get to work.

“He earns about £670 a month.”

The magistrates banned Hebdon from the roads for 18 months.

He was also ordered to pay £265 in fines and costs at £30 a month.
