Jonjo Shelvey makes Newcastle debut against boyhood team West Ham

Jonjo Shelvey will make his Newcastle United debut against West Ham United.

The midfielder, signed from Swansea City this week, is in Steve McClaren's starting XI for this afternoon's home game (3pm kick-off).

Boyhood West Ham fan Shelvey, 23, joined early this week along with fellow midfielder Henri Saivet, who is on the bench.

Shelvey replaces China-bound Cheick Tiote in one change for relegation-threatened Newcastle.

Meanwhile, West Ham are without the injury Andy Carroll, who is at St James's Park for the game.
