"I think the group is fantastic," said Joselu. "Last season, for me and the club, was amazing. It's difficult to compare this season and last season, as we don't start already. But we're training hard to win the games.

"Personally, every year I want to do my best and try to score more goals than last season and more assists and more everything.

"It's difficult, because the league is very difficult to score goals. I try to do my best in the pre-season."

United manager Benitez has taken his team to Ireland for the third successive pre-season, and Joselu – who trained over the summer – is enjoying his first pre-season with the club.

"We need to train hard to come back stronger," Joselu told NUFC TV. "Last season was finished well mentally and physically.

"It's really important for me to stay with Newcastle in pre-season – it's the most important time in the league season. I try to train well to come back stronger physically and mentally."

"I prefer to train a little bit in the summer to come back better, because if not, it's too hard when we come back and train two sessions every day.

"I have a friend in Spain and I train with him a couple of days. He helped me a lot."

"Every game in pre-season is important. Tuesday is the first test. We want to play these games, because we're training hard every day. I think Tuesday is a good test."
