Letter of the week: Cyclists are very much aware of the danger they pose


I was concerned by the statistics in the opinion piece by Adrian Dalton (Shields Gazette, November 28), namely that 19 pedestrians have been killed by cyclists and 431 injured.
I’d be interested in the source of these statistics as I’m unable to find anything from the ONS which states this.

Hide AdI also think the tone of the piece especially in the closing note “Many cyclists would not appreciate the danger they pose to pedestrians in the same way that they would if they were driving a car,” suggests to me Adrian isn’t fond of cyclists and comes across as being very condescending, completely ignoring the fact that a lot of cyclists are also motorists and very much aware of the danger they pose.
