Looking at back at Easter in Shields

There's quite a contrast between these old photos of Easter time in South Shields.

The 120th annual Procession of Witness marches down King's Street into the Market Place for the Easter Service Parade

For two of them feature crowds of people, thronging the town centre, while the other is a portrait of almost splendid isolation.

The top picture was taken in April, 1971, and captures the 120th annual Procession of Witness march down King Street into the Market Place for the Easter Service.

The one above is even older (taken in April 1963) and shows children and parents celebrating the traditional Good Friday service at South Shields Market Place. Right, Good Friday proved to be a bit of a wash-out in April, 1966, when mist and rain had these people seeking shelter in the bandstand in West Park.
