Man, 36, who died after being hit by a car in Gateshead is named

A man from South Shields who sadly died after being hit by a car in Gateshead has been named by police.

A man has been killed after being hit by a vehicle on the A184 near Whitemare Pool.

At 12.30 am on Saturday, December 14, police were called to reports of a collision involving a dark coloured car and a man on the A184 Felling Bypass westbound near Whitemare Pool.

Emergency services were sent to the scene but sadly the man, who is aged 36, was pronounced dead at the scene.

He can now be named as Nathan Ariss, who lived in the South Shields area.

Police inquiries to determine the cause of the crash are ongoing.

A man and woman – both aged 40 – were arrested and have now been released under investigation.
