Man fighting for his life after attack outside takeaway

A man is fighting for his life in hospital today after a late-night attack outside a takeaway.

Police were called to Marlborough Place, Newcastle, opposite the Centre For Life, at 2.15am today.

They found a man had suffered serious head injuries after being assaulted outside the Flame 'N' Grill takeaway.

His injuries are said to be with life-threatening, and he remains in hospital in a critical condition.

The individual responsible, believed to be a man, fled in the direction of Westmorland Road before police arrived.

He was white, about 5ft 10in tall, and slim, with dark hair. He was wearing a light short-sleeved shirt, dark trousers and dark footwear.

Police are appealing for witnesses, and would like anyone who saw the incident, or knows the person responsible, to call them on 101, quoting log 112 20/11/16.
