A man who sexually abused two girls almost half a century ago has been jailed for more than seven years.

Brian Jordan, now 60-years-old, raped one of the school-aged girls and indecently assaulted and had unlawful sexual intercourse with the other more than four decades ago at an address in Newcastle.

For years, his offending went undetected until one of the brave survivors spoke out against her abuser and reported the offences to police.

An investigation was immediately launched by Northumbria Police’s Safeguarding Department which revealed the full extent of Jordan’s offending.

In March 2023, Jordan, of Croydon Road, Newcastle, was charged with five offences, including rape and indecent assault.

And following a trial at Newcastle Crown Court in April this year, he was convicted of all five of the sexual offences.

On Thursday, June 27 he appeared back at the same court where he was jailed for seven years and seven months.

He was also told he will spend the rest of his life on the Sex Offenders’ Register.

The investigation into Jordan’s offending was led by Detective Constable Helen O’Halleron, of Northumbria Police.

Speaking after the sentencing, she said: “First and foremost, I want to recognise the courage of the survivors in this case for coming forward and reporting what they have been through.

“It is thanks to their bravery that this man has been brought to justice for these truly horrendous crimes.

“I hope this gives them some sense of closure so they can continue to re-build their lives and move forward in whatever way they can.”

She added: “We would urge all victims of sexual abuse to come forward, no matter how much time has passed.

“Jordan’s crimes had gone under the radar for years, but not anymore.

“Our message to survivors is clear – we are here to support you and we will seek to bring those responsible to justice.”
