Man receives caution over '˜malicious' Facebook attack on social club

A man has received a caution from police over vile online posts directed at a South Tyneside social club.

The Elmfield Social Club, in Campbell Park Road, Hebburn, took to Facebook to tell members that false allegations had been made on the social media site by someone disgruntled about the club.

The statement from the club said the allegation was damaging and had been reported to police.

It also said it was seeking legal advice about taking civil action against the person responsible.

It said: “This is a lie and false allegation.

“We will leave no stone unturned to publicly challenge the individual and anyone who has been involved in this malicious attack.

“Anybody who thinks it’s funny to do this is a disgrace.”

The club’s internet statement went on to say it would name and shame the person responsible for the online posts.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “A 39-year-old man from South Tyneside received a caution.”
