Marine firm lands major contract from United Arab Emirates

A thriving South Tyneside firm is going full '˜screen' ahead for an even brighter future after securing a new international deal.

Solar Solve Marine, which manufactures anti-glare, heat rejecting roller screens for ships, has won a contract from the United Arab Emirates to supply 35 of its screens.

They will be fitted to the Topaz Mamlaka, a newly-built vessel set to be deployed in the Gulf.

Solar Solve, based on the Simonside Industrial Park, in South Shields, has specialised in providing sun and glare protection to the marine and offshore industry for decades.

The firm has made waves on a global scale in recent years - after scooping contracts with companies from as far afield as Texas and the Far East.

Solar Solve anti-glare screens are installed in the windows of all types of ships, rigs and cranes.

The company began life as Northern Window Blind Company in Sunderland in 1975 and marked its 40th anniversary with a bash at the Sea Hotel, South Shields, in October.

Now Solar Solve is putting its product to the test in one of the hottest regions on the planet.

Paul Hopkins, Sales and Marketing Executive at Solar Solve, said: “It was great news when we won this contract to supply sunscreens for a vessel operating in one of the hottest regions on the planet.

“The screens will help to significantly reduce glare, heat and reflection on the navigation bridge whilst the vessel safely carries out its daily operations.

“The screens were ordered through one of our world wide distributors based in the United Arab Emirates.”
