Football has changed quite a bit since Jim Calvert was helping run Marsden CW Juniors football team '“ dedication that earned a testimonial match and a magnificent trophy in 1976 for his 30-plus years service to the club.

Today his nephew Jeff Appleyard, who sent us these Marsden team photos, tells us more about the club stalwart.
Jeff says: “The footballs in those days looked really heavy and I can remember Jim bringing them home and dubbing them, and I’m sure the boots too!

Hide Ad“His wife, my aunt Millie Calvert, washed the shirts and shorts. They were like canvas when wet. I know this because my wife Ada stood in for aunty when she was off colour!”
