Newcastle confirm Dublin date

Newcastle United will kick off their pre-season campaign with a fixture against Bohemian next month.

The relegated club today confirmed that they will take on the League of Ireland club at Dalymount Park on July 16.

Manager Rafa Benitez is taking his squad to County Kildare for a week-long training camp.

And the team will return to England to continue their preparations for next season's Championship campaign after the fixture.

United beat Bohemian over two legs in the first round of the UEFA Cup in the 1977-78 season.

The two sides drew 0-0 in Ireland, but Newcastle progressed after a 4-0 success at St James's Park.

There was also a friendly between the two sides in 1998 which ended 1-1.
