Newcastle consider £8m move for World Cup defender

Rafa Benitez wants to sign four players before the August 9 transfer deadline – and a left-back is on his wishlist.

United manager Benitez is understood to keen on 25-year-old Tagliafico, who went to the World Cup with Argentina this summer.

Tagliafico – who is also reportedly a target for Fulham – is available for around £8million this summer.

However, Benitez is having to sell to buy this summer, could struggle to finance a move for Tagliafico, who joined Ajax from Independiente in January.

Benitez's first-choice left-back is Paul Dummett.

Dummett was backed up by right-footed Javier Manquillo last season.

Benitez is also looking to sign a striker, a No 10 and a centre-half this summer.
