Newcastle make summer decision on goalkeeper
Paul Woolston will leave Newcastle United this summer.
The goalkeeper joined the club after being released by Sunderland.
Woolston has trained with Rafa Benitez's first-team squad this season.And Woolston – who has had loans spells at South Shields, Blyth Spartans and Darlington – made an impression on Benitez.
"He's a good keeper," said United manager Benitez. "When we need a player on the pitch, he's quite good with his feet. I think he's keen to learn. He's been good with us in every training session."
Woolston – who represented England at Under-18 level – scored a penalty for Newcastle's Under-23s in their Premier League International Cup win over boyhood team Sunderland in March.
Meanwhile, a number of other players will also leave the club's Academy this summer.
"We have a lot of players that will be released this year," said Benitez. "I was talking with Ben (Dawson, United's Under-23 coach) about the Academy and the Under-23s and if he could see if things were going well.
"He said they will have a lot of players that will leave."
