Georginio Wijnaldum completed a £25million move to Anfield last week and could again team up with Sissoko, who is the subject of speculation today.

Newcastle have put a £35m price tag on Sissoko, despite the French international making it clear that he wants to leave St James's Park.

The Magpies face their penultimate pre-season friendly at Southend United tonight, with summer signing Isaac Hayden expecting to see some familiar faces at Roots Hall.

Hayden was a youngster in the Southend academy, before joining Arsenal as a 14-year-old.

He said: "It was a good starting block for me in my career so far and I've got a lot to thank them for. I still know quite a few of the staff down there so it'll be good to get back and see them."

Meanwhile, Newcastle youngster Liam Smith could return to Tyneside for treatment after suffering an ankle injury during his loan spell at Crewe.

“Our physio Rob Sharp is in discussions with Newcastle about him possibly going back there for his initial treatment," said Crewe boss Steve Davis.
