And Mitrovic, the last player to leave the field, has spoken in glowing terms about the club's supporters.

The 22-year-old said: "My heart is full for this club. When you hear the whole stadium sing your name, it really is unbelievable."

Newcastle take on Preston at Deepdale tomorrow in the Championship.

United manager Rafa Benitez is expecting a very different game given that Simon Grayson, his opposite number, had made nine changes for the cup tie.

Grayson has been talking about the rematch at Deepdale, where Newcastle will be backed by 5,600 supporters.
