The Dutch giants were linked with a move for their former player in the summer.

Instead De Jong opted to sign with rivals PSV, linking up with brother and former United forward Luuk de Jong.

But links with Ajax continue to surface, and Overmars, who is director of football at the Amsterdam club, has addressed rumours that the Magpies might offer De Jong at a discounted price to Ajax, simply because they offered to help get international keeper Tim Krul back to full fitness.

As reported by Voetbal International, at the club's AGM Overmars laughed off the suggestion that United might show goodwill towards his club.

The former Arsenal wideman said: "If Newcastle see me coming, I don’t think they will offer a discount for Siem de Jong."

Injury problems have blighted De Jong's time on Tyneside and since has returned to the Lowlands things haven't really picked up.

The attacking midfielder has made just eight appearances so far this season for PSV, scoring one goal.

Krul is also yet to make a competitive appearance for Ajax, but is nearing a return having turned out in a friendly for the four time European Cup winners last week.
