The relegation-threatened club yesterday offered £21million for the unsettled West Bromwich Albion striker.

United are understood to be waiting for a response to the bid from Jeremy Peace, the club's chairman.

West Brom have made no comment Newcastle's bid, though head coach Tony Pulis said "we'll see" when asked if Berahino's two FA Cup goals against Peterborough United on Saturday would be his last for the club.

Pulis said: “He’s a good player and he can score. Will those be his last goals for the club? We’ll see. That’s the chairman’s decision.”

However, the Gazette understands that West Brom's position on Berahino has not changed in the last 24 hours.

And the 23-year-old – who is also interesting Tottenham Hotspur – is not for sale.
