Newcastle's Jonjo Shelvey opens up on Swansea exit and 'bad attitude' claims

The midfielder this week joined the club from Swansea City in a £12million deal.

And Londoner Shelvey is set to make his Newcastle debut at St James's park tomorrow against West Ham United, the team he supported as a boy.

Swansea interim manager Alan Curtis had questioned Shelvey's attitude in recent weeks.

But the 23-year-old said "I don't see myself with a bad attitude. I will show that to the Newcastle fans. I hope those comments will stop.

"My aim is to show the fans I am the right player to be here."

On his move to Newcastle, Shelvey added: “It's good to be here, and I'm excited.

"I've been welcomed with open arms. It's a passionate city, and I'll fit in here the way I play.

“I want game time. I was told I didn't suit the style of Swansea's play by the manager.

"I ever once asked to leave. I wasn't going to play, wasn't getting my chance and I needed a new challenge.

"I was lucky a massive club showed interest in me."

Shelvey found himself frozen out by Curtis after the departure of Garry Monk early last month.

“The Swansea fans got on my back a bit at the end," said the England international.

"I was training hard and competing for a place in the team.

"I never got a chance of getting back in the team and I felt hard done by. The fans got on my back.

"It is going to be Swansea's loss in the end."
