Newcastle's Tim Krul reacts to his penalty heroics for AZ

Tim Krul has secured a place in a cup final for AZ Alkmaar with a dramatic penalty save.

Krul, on a half-season loan from Newcastle United, stopped the decisive spot-kick against Camburr last night.

And the goalkeeper has a KNVB Cup final against Vitesse Arnhem to look forward to next month.

The 28-year-old said on Twitter: "What a night! This is what it's all about. On to the final."

Krul's penalty save came on his seventh appearance for AZ.

The Holland international had spent the first half of the season on loan at Ajax, who were knocked out of the KNVB Cup by Cambuur.

Krul – who famously came off the bench to save a penalty in the 2014 World Cup – didn't play a senior competitive game for the Amsterdam club.

He was still recovering the serious knee injury he suffered playing for his country in October 2015 when he joined Ajax last summer.

And he moved to Alkmaar to play week in, week out.

Krul, the long-time No 1 at Newcastle, is under contract at St James's Park until the summer of 2018.
