
The Great North Air Ambulance scrambled two helicopters just after 1pm today carrying trauma teams, specialists and supplies.
Helimed 063 took off from Durham Tees Valley Airport with a trauma team consisting of an emergency department consultant and a paramedic on board.
Helimed 058 in Cumbria, also with a trauma team on board, and carrying a consultant anaesthetist, was put on stand-by.
Both aircraft were carrying blood and plasma carried for use mainly in major trauma blood loss.
