One dead in fatal crash on A19: Incident closes road for hours
One person has been killed in a fatal smash on the A19.

A section of the A19 has been closed for hours after a fatal collision in North Tyneside.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: "At 1:41am on Saturday, July 16, police received a report that a car had been involved in a collision on the A19 near to the Killingworth turn off at Backworth Lane.
"Officers are currently at the scene and one person has died as a result of the collision.
"An investigation is underway and a section of the A19 between Killingworth Way and Holystone is closed in both directions."

The road was expected to be fully open by 10am, but is not estimated to be shut for another half an hour.
