Parents continue to pitch their support for charity in memory of their baby girl

Lana's parents Gemma and Karl Murphy are hosting another match in her name as they raise funds for Tiny Lives,

Karl and Gemma Murphy, both 31, lost five-day-old Lana in October 2014.

Test revelled two rare complications had occurred and gone undetected, including a blood clot in the umbilical cord which meant Lana was not getting enough oxygen or nutrients needed to grow properly.

Lana Murphy has left a legacy as her family raise funds in her memory.

Following their loss, the Jarrow couple have headed up an appeal to raise funds for the Tiny Lives charity, with more than £20,000 raised so far thanks to the support of their friends and family.

Karl, an applications developer for Ebac, and Gemma, a PE teacher at Long Benton Community College, will stage a football match at South Shields FC’s ground at Mariners Park as they look to give their appeal another boost.

Karl said: “It’s keeping Lana’s memory alive.

“Most of our friends are married, have their own children and jobs, and for them to give up a full day is amazing.”

The team names, Little Rock Rovers, and Et Iris 24 10, are inspired by the Latin for Lana and for rainbow, as Somewhere Over the Rainbow was played at her funeral and the date of her death added to Et Iris.

Around 30 players will take part, with gates open at 2pm and a 3pm kick off.

A bouncy castle will be set up for children and a raffle will run.

A collection at the game, the second to be held, will be set up on the gate.
