Last week, a Labour motion calling for the free meals scheme to be extended over school holidays until Easter 2021 was defeated by 261 votes to 322 in the Commons – with five Conservative MPs rebelling to vote with the Opposition.
Despite the struggling climate the Covid-19 crisis has caused the hospitality industries, businesses across South Tyneside are doing what they an to ensure no child goes hungry during the half-term holidays.
Here is a list of 14 eateries and what they are doing to support families:

. Mardi Gras Sandwich Bar

Colmans Seafood Temple is offering free meals between 3pm and 5pm for children between Monday and Friday of the Autumn half-term holidays. The meals will be available for takeaway without an adult purchase. Photo: Stu Norton

The Red Hut, in South Shields, is offering any family who is struggling without the free school meal during half-term. Call, message on Facebook or pop in and ask for a Red Hut School Meal. Offer open to any child up to aged 18. Photo: Google
