Bus and lorry drivers targeted in Northumbria Police operation
Created by TISPOL, the European Traffic Police Network, the week-long operation was a Europe-wide initiative which began on Monday, February 10.
Officers increased inspections, checked driving and rest times, monitored tachometers and investigated loads to improve road safety. Dozens of trucks and buses were stopped. Eleven prohibition notices were served.
Inspector Paul Allen, of the force’s motor control department, said: “Checks are carried out all year round, but operations like this give us a chance to delve a little deeper, stopping more drivers.
“So far over 10 prohibition notices have been handed out, making our roads a safer place.
“Thanks to all our road safety partners along with the haulage, bus and coach industry for helping us to promote safe and responsible driving, which will help us reduce casualties and accidents on the road.”
