Can't Help Falling in Love was amazing - Brazilian family on attending SAFC v Liverpool game at Stadium of Light
“It was a wonderful experience, lots of energy from the fans and the crowd singing ‘Can't Help Falling in Love’ was amazing”
The words of Brazilian dentist Marcelo Balsamo who along with his sons Luiz Felipe and Henrique travelled 6,000 miles from São Paulo in South America to join fellow Black Cats fans at the Stadium of Light for last night’s Premier League fixture against Liverpool.

The family “fell in love” with SAFC after watching the Netflix series Sunderland Til I Die.
Sadly, the Back Cats were unable to maintain their unbeaten league home record, falling to a 0-1 defeat, but it didn’t stop Marcelo and his sons enjoying their experience.

He said: “It was a wonderful experience, lots of energy from the fans and the crowd singing ‘I Can't Help Falling in Love’ was amazing.
“The atmosphere was exactly what I expected; lots of joy regardless of any sporting result.
“In Brazil we are as passionate about football as the British are. In terms of pre and post-match gatherings and football as a whole, our countries are like brothers.”
And on the all important result, Marcelo added: “I was disappointed, as I think the team wasn't at its best. We wanted to have celebrated a goal along with the Black Cats.
“We definitely want to come back to watch another game. Ha'way the lads.”
