For almost a hundred years, South Shields brand Barbour has been making its traditional wax jackets in its South Tyneside HQ, as well as rewaxing and repairing jackets to give a new lease of life to old favourites.

The brand has been in the North East for 126 years, with founder John Barbour opening his first store in Market Place, South Shields, in 1894 selling oilskins to sailors, fishermen and mariners to protect them from the worst of the North Sea weather.

Next door to the Barbour factory is the brand’s popular outlet store, which offers shoppers around 70% off the likes of its jackets, clothing and accessories.
