Colmans Seafood Temple in South Shields lit in rainbow colours for NHS and key workers
The mulicoloured light system at Colmans Seafood Temple has been become a symbol of solidarity during the COVID-19 crisis.
The hospitality industry has been hit hard by social distancing restrictions in place to limit the spread of the virus, but restaurateur Richard Colman said he wanted to do his bit to lift people’s spirits at this time and will be lighting the structure every night during lockdown.

Hide AdHe said: “I thought of the idea to light up Colman’s Seafood Temple to show our support to our NHS and key workers as the work they are doing at the minute is to be commended. I hope this just brings a smile to people as they drive past during these unprecedented times.
“My family and our team have been looking at ways to help the local community and show our appreciation, and this idea was one to try and lift spirits during lockdown.”
The first images, which were shot by Steven Lomas, have proved popular and have been shared thousands of times across social media.
Many South Tyneside restaurants have ramped up their delivery and collection services, which is still permitted under Government guidelines.

Hide AdThis week, the Ocean Road branch of Colmans will launch a Colmans at Home service where people can click and collect their chippie teas or order for delivery within a three mile radius of the shop.
